ANTE NATAL CLASSES

The course include eight classes, presented weekly at FAMMED

Only 6-8 couples are allowed to ensure personal contact.

Several aspects regarding pregnancy, labor and baby care is included. The program for the course is as follows:

CLASS 1
  • Physical exercises
  • Fetal development
  • Physical and emotional changes during pregnancy
  • Diet
  • Preparation of breasts
  • Clothing
  • Necessities for mother and baby
  • Daily lifestyle e.g. sport, exercise, rest, smoking & alcohol
  • Sexuality

CLASS 2
  • Relaxation exercises
  • Danger signs during pregnancy
  • Necessities for mother and baby during stay in hospital
  • Motherhood
  • Signs of labor
  • Arrival at and admission in hospital


CLASS 3
  • Breathing techniques during labor process
  • Four stages of labor
  • Pain relief during labor
  • Epidural anesthetic

CLASS 4
  • Practice breathing exercises
  • Possible obstetric procedures during labor
  • Induction
  • Episiotomy
  • Use of obstetric tools and / suction
  • Cesarean section


CLASS 5

  • Breast feeding
  • Diet of mother
  • Bottle feeding
  • Weaning and introduction of solids
  • Feeding problems

CLASS 6
  • Baby bath demonstration
  • Physical examination of newborn
  • Packing of nappy bag
  • General routine of a baby
  • General problems e.g. crying, jaundice


CLASS 7
  • Fathers-night
  • Help during birth
  • Preparation for parenthood
  • Growth and development of baby
  • Basic first aid and safety in the house
  • Financial implications - Budget - Will

CLASS 8
  • Labor practice
  • Preparations at home
  • Hospital stay and first few days at home:
  • Emotional instability (blues)
  • Jaundice

  • Breast and perinea care
  • Early discharge (home visit)
